Retraction: The App Store Rejection of the Week That Was, in Fact, a Correct Rejection
Retraction: The App Store Rejection of the Week That Was, in Fact, a Correct Rejection

I didn't know this was a site, and now I'm glad I know this is a site. What got me here was the drama around this particular app. It's got everything: claims of unfair treatment, claims of unfair portrayal of an application, claims of copying by AI, the works. Well worth a read.

I've long been a fan of pie menus. I wish macOS had adopted and used pie menus. This looks like something I need to try out at some point.

I was very late coming to NetNewsWire, only discovering it in the last year; it's been one of my goto RSS tools on macOS and iOS ever since. Here the author talks about the progress made in the last year.

A Lisa. In the browser. While I never used a Lisa, and while I've never even seen one in person, it's still wild to me that a computer from my younger days can now just be emulated in a browser.

This app falls under the heading of "apps I really want to like because it seems to solve a problem I want solved but I don't like how it solves it". Mostly I do like how it solves it, but something is off about it; also it's laggy as hell on my iPhone 16 Pro, for some reason.

Watch to 5K: Couch to 5km app for Apple Watch
Watch to 5K: Couch to 5km app for Apple Watch

I need to get back into running again, and after a bunch of health issues I need to be gentle which means doing C25K again. The NHS podcast was fine but I don't think I can really work through that again as it is kind of annoying.

This might be worth trying.

For a while, you've been able to script Mac OS using JavaScript using JavaScript for Open Scripting Architecture (JSOSA). This is a huge improvement on AppleScript. Why? JavaScript isn't a great language, but it broadly follows the conventions that programming languages of the C/ALGOL family have followed for decades. AppleScript is a horrendous mess that should never have come into being.

Interesting and useful-looking personal database app for iOS and macOS. I haven't really needed a database app like this for a long time, but it's worth keeping a note of this should it became a requirement.

It looks good enough that I almost want to try and find a reason to use it.

iOS 18 beta removed option to track time in bed with iPhone
iOS 18 beta removed option to track time in bed with iPhone

Having finally switched to using pure-Apple-ecosystem for sleep tracking, I was curious why I wasn't getting any sort of "time in bed" value recorded (as opposed to time asleep). The previous (iOS-based) tracking app did it just fine.

Turns out it used to be an option that was set on the phone, and iOS 18 seems to have taken it away, but still reports it (as nothing recorded).

Weird.

Stop macOS 15 Sequoia monthly screen recording prompts
Stop macOS 15 Sequoia monthly screen recording prompts

I've not run into the new monthly screen recording prompt yet but I can imagine that when I do it might get annoying. I appreciate Apple being super cautious with security and stuff like this, most of the time, but this feels a bit too much.

It's good to know there is a way to work around it, if you're happy to go "under the hood".

This iMac is Not Obsolete!
This iMac is Not Obsolete!
I have a 2012/13 (I think it's a 2013) iMac just sat around doing nothing these days; also a Macbook Air too (I think that might be a 2014, I forget without looking). I've never had the heart to dispose of them and something like this could be a good use.
