The AI water issue is fake
Summary: The water usage of AI data centres is not a significant environmental issue. While data centres do use water, primarily for cooling, their water consumption is minimal compared to other industries and daily activities. I see this brought up a lot, and while I understand the concern, I'm always a litle skeptical that it's what people trot out. Keeping this so I can refer back to it, and for further investigation.
The Boring Internet
The internet is not dying, but the commercial layer built on top of it is. This layer, characterised by platforms and services, is straining under the weight of machine-generated content and a focus on profit. Beneath this layer lies the protocol layer, a collection of older, less polished technologies that are harder to monetise but also harder to control or destroy.

There's a "fact" about COVID deaths that does the rounds, that suggests that deaths amongst Amish/Mennonites was no higher than pre-COVID times; the implication being that something else was causing the deaths. It's nonsense, of course...
